Evacuation Test - What Not to Do
This guy's got the right idea in considering what he would take with him if he had 20 minutes to evacuate his home. It's apparent that he's done a little planning, because he's got maps to his bug-out locations with the no-freeways option, as well as with the freeways. He's got a good stockpile of food and supplies. He knows what he's got and knows where to find it. But, when it comes down to choosing what he should and shouldn't take with him within the 20 minutes, he's obviously not prepared. Good thing this is only a mental drill.
Moral of the story: Make sure, ahead of time, that you've got all your bases covered with food, water, shelter, bedding, hygiene, tools & equipment, clothes & shoes, recreational items, and important documents & information. Know exactly what you will be walking out the door with when the time comes to leave your home. Grabbing "stuff" at a moment's notice is one thing, but knowing that you're taking exactly what you need will take a little of the stress off of you in an otherwise stressful situation.

20 Minutes to bug out! .AVIhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQOqeMOPFoI&feature=related
Whoa! I was just watching a video from GulfCoastJaguarundi. He was giving himself 20 minutes to get out of his house. And he's sort of doing a mental drill. I think that's a good idea.
Now if it was a situation where all the neighbors and everybody knew they had 20 minutes to get out, that would mean I would have to get out NOW. I wouldn't wait 20 minutes.
All I would do is leap to my feet, hit the gun safe, grab maybe my AR, a shotgun, and a pistol, and then roll. And then I would grab my bug-out bag and throw it in the bug-out vehicle, and floor it, and try and get out ahead of the crowds. I wouldn't take the freeways, obviously. They would just be jammed.
...
If I somehow decided that I had 20 minutes, and it was in a situation where all the neighbors knew, too, I would just start grabbing things, and I'd start throwing them out into the livingroom as a staging area to basically then load into the bug-out vehicle.
...
[He then goes through his home deciding what he should take based on what he sees. After a lot of "maybe," "probably," and "should I?" it becomes obvious that he needs to have a separate storage area just for evacuation supplies.]
